Wash and Climate Project

WASH and Climate (WC-) SDG 6 Clean water and sanitation & Climate Action

Access to safe water, sanitation, and proper hygiene (WASH) remains a critical development issue in many parts of Ghana. Although progress has been made over the years, several rural and peri-urban communities continue to face challenges such as inadequate sanitation facilities, unsafe water sources, poor waste management practices, and limited awareness about hygiene. These challenges are further compounded by the growing impacts of climate change, which affect water availability, agricultural productivity, and community health.

The WASH and Climate programme of Africa Initiative for Development (AID) is designed to promote sustainable water management, improved sanitation, and climate resilience in vulnerable communities. The programme focuses on providing and rehabilitating safe water facilities, supporting the construction of improved sanitation infrastructure, and promoting hygiene education in schools and communities. It also works to strengthen community awareness on climate change adaptation, environmental conservation, and sustainable natural resource management.

Through partnerships with local authorities, community groups, and development stakeholders, AID seeks to empower communities to adopt environmentally responsible practices that protect both public health and natural ecosystems. By integrating WASH interventions with climate action, the programme contributes to building healthier, safer, and more resilient communities across Ghana.
